4th of July pet safety

URBANA -- July 4th may be fun for families, but for animals, that's not always the case.
URBANA -- July 4th may be fun for families, but for animals, that's not always the case.

More animals will get lost or run off Thursday than any other night of the year. The lights and loud noises can be stressful, especially for dogs.

The UI Veterinary School says planning is key. Put your pet in a crate or room before fireworks start. You can also talk to your vet about getting medication to calm them. You should also make sure your pets are on a secure leash if you take them outside and don't leave them in parked cars even if the windows are cracked.
