Area haunted house closed

CLINTON -- A popular haunted house will be closed this Halloween season.
CLINTON -- A popular haunted house will be closed this Halloween season. The Terror on Washington Street Haunted House did not meet State Fire guidelines.

The building it uses does not have a sprinkler system, required by law in Illinois. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marian Brisard says there was not enough time to get the building up to code.

"We only found out about this on September 23 when the State Fire Marshal came through. We've known about the impending problem, but we thought we were grandfathered in and there is no such thing."

Brisard says they were working closely with police. They also had fire extingishers and emergency lighting to ensure public safety but it was not enough. A sprinkler system will cost about $60,000. Brisard say they might find a new location for next year.
