Area teen honored by Air Force

GEORGETOWN -- A local teen is being remembered 20-years after she was kidnapped and murdered. Jessica Roach always wanted to join the Air Force and Friday, the military presented her parents with a plaque in front of Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School.

Roach was only a freshman when someone kidnapped her in front of her family's home. Her body was found weeks later in Indiana.

With the 20th anniversary of her death coming up, the Air Force wanted to recognize her. Her parents Tery and Loren Roach said they hope it will inspire other kids to shoot for their dreams.

"We really hope that the fact that she's getting this plaque, the fact that we're going to memorialize her a little bit more here with this tree and with a stone that's going to be placed here, we hope those memories will give other the kids the opportunity to shoot for their dreams, as well."

Next Friday, there will be a benefit to raise money for a scholarship in her name. The money will go to a freshman at Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School.
