Cameras to record board meetings

VERMILION COUNTY -- Controversy with the Vermilion County Board is forcing members to press record.
VERMILION COUNTY -- Controversy with the Vermilion County Board is forcing members to press record. For the first time, their meetings will be videotaped.

It's partly because people in Danville have been accusing board members of leaving the room when things get heated during public comments. Four cameras were installed in the board room at a cost of $3,000.

Not only will it keep the public informed once recordings are posted online, but board members say it will force everyone to be held accountable.

They'll also use the recordings for archiving and security purposes. The first meeting will be recorded Tuesday and posted on the county's website within a few days.
