CHAMPAIGN - A Champaign boxer is fighting his way into the national spotlight. Kofi Bazzell-Smith just became a Chicago Golden Gloves Champion. He won his belt in the 141 pound weight class a few nights ago, but the training doesn't stop now. The win earned him a spot in the national tournament in Nevada later this month. The 21-year-old only started boxing 3 years ago.

"It's still unbelievable really. I really wasn't sure where I was skill wise, and I know people always believe in me. My coach always says I was good, but I mean I've had some doubts. And this kind of made me realize I am at that level," Bazzell-Smith said.

Between the training, the Centennial High School grad goes to school at Parkland Community College. He credits all his success to his coach, Nelson Luyando.
