CHAMPAIGN -- While tanning salons may not be happy about a change to illinois law. this business owner says she's looking forward to it.

January first anyone under 18 won't be able to use a tanning bed, even with their parents permission. WCIA 3 Anthony Antoine tells us how that is giving another business a boost.

Teens in Illinois will have two options when it comes to tanning, wait for the summer sun or spray it on.

"The sunless tanning industry is growing leaps and bounds." says Kristin Little. She owns a spray tanning business in Champaign. The industry has grown, but it hasn't caught up to the popularity of tanning beds. That could change come January 1st, 2014. Illinois will become the sixth state to ban indoor tanning for minors.

Billy Donohue says "I think its a good idea i know it does increase the chances of cancer." For Little, thats what her business is trying to do. "That's what we try to teach here is maintaining and taking care of your skin."

It's a decision supported by the American Cancer Society and the American Academy of Dermatology. Heres why. One in five people will develop skin cancer. In illinois, almost twenty five hundred people will be diagnosed with melanoma this year. Studies show UV-rays from indoor tanning can increase the chance of getting melanoma by 75 percent.

The new law forces people to look for an alternative. Little says, "we do hope to see an increase in business with this new tanning ban thats getting passed. A lot of time when you go to the tanning beds their not using proper lotion, or using lotion at all which is drying out their skin more quickly. with spray tanning we add vitamin A,C,E organic and natural ingredients in there so its preserving your skin and giving it that additional nutrients that your skin needs to thrive."

It's only takes about 10 minutes to get a spray tan, but for Little, its more about taking care of the skin and not damaging it.
