SPRINGFIELD -- A company is trying to inform lawmakers about the benefits of 3D mammograms in hopes lawmakers will allow for a Medicaid reimbursement for the procedure.

Hologic parked a 3D Mammography bus near the State House Wednesday to show off the technology. Inside, lawmakers could view a model of the machine and see the difference between 2D and 3D images.

Doctors say they can discover breast cancer months, or even years sooner, using the technology. The machine can take both 3D and standard 2D images.

The company wants Medicaid reimbursement for the procedure so low-income women can have equal access.
