HOOPESTON -- It's been two months since J & R Used Tire Service caught fire and clean-up efforts are still going on. Neighbors are ready for it to be over.

Even though the fire's out, it's still causing a lot of trouble. Neighbors say the clean-up is forcing a lot of dust and soot into the air. They say it gets everywhere.

The fire in June broke out when sparks from a machine ignited dust. The lot burned for days before crews were able to get it under control.

Clean-up started a month ago, and excavators have been loading up all the debris onto semis to be hauled away. Residents say they've been constantly cleaning. It's even tough to walk down the street without being covered in soot.

The EPA says water doesn't keep the tire dust down. It's been looking at some chemicals which might help reduce dust and soot to a minimum.
