PAXTON -- The FBI, police and sheriff's department waited more than a month to catch these guys. That patience paid off. WCIA-3's Amanda Porterfield has the story.

We now know the name of a man who was beaten and kidnapped. Ford County Court records show Joel Hastings is the victim.

Rodolfo Cerritos, Evigan Marcos and Edwardo Samano are all accused of kidnapping, beating, robbing and extorting Hastings. They were caught in their own trap.

Officials says it happened at Nextstep Commercial Products. Hastings, who is listed online as the company's general manager, was abducted. Kelly Williams works at the USDA building right next door.

"Everyone in our office, we were just flabbergasted. We couldn't believe somebody got kidnapped and then extorted," says Williams.

Police say the accused used a gun and bat to beat their victim last month. They then drove him around for three hours before leaving him in a field. Court documents state the suspects took $300 from Hastings, his cell phone, two profit-sharing checks from Nextstep and credit cards.

"I had no clue. So, the FBI and the police department kept it underwraps quite well," says Williams.

That was no accident. Police say, a month after the attack, the suspects led authorities to a park in Loda. January 15 was the day Hastings was supposed to drop off more money in this trash can or else. Instead the police were waiting.

"I still feel safe especially since these folks were apprehended," says Williams.

The third man, Edwardo Samano, lives outside of Chicago. He was extradited to Ford County Thursday. All three men are being held on $250,000 bond. Paxton's police chief says a lot of teamwork paid off and he's happy they caught the suspects.
