Area PI could make her mark on Hollywood

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- An area woman may soon see her work on a big screen.
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- An area woman may soon see her work on a big screen. Penfield-native, Maureen Hughes never even thought she'd be a writer. Now she has a couple books under her belt. Each of those could turn into something more.

She's been in touch with some big names in Hollywood who could turn her books into movies. Hughes works out of her home. By trade, she's actually a private investigator, but now she's written two true crime novels.

The first, The Countess and the Mob, is based on her experiences with the heiress of a Champaign newspaper. After it was published, the book ended up in a Chicago airport. It caught the eye of a man from California who says he read it twice in a day. Then, he called her one Sunday afternoon. Now, they have a contract and she's also in talks about turning her second book into a miniseries on a network like HBO.

Next up for Hughes? Meeting with a script writer for her movie. She says she's excited to share her stories with even more people.
