ARTHUR -- A series of overnight smash & grabs have people in this small town buzzing. But, tonight, they're resting at ease.
A Cerro Gordo man faces charges of burglarizing two downtown businesses in Arthur. WCIA-3's Sophia Beausoleil finds out how police caught up with him.
Arthur is known for simple living, but the town got a taste of big city life.
    "Oh, what a shame."
"You're always surprised when someone kind of violates your business or something like that but we've been very fortunate over the years."
Rod Randall's electric store was one of several businesses targeted in a string of burglaries in Arthur.
"I found police and they had broken through the main show room and taken a couple televisions."
It's only the second time they've been robbed in more than 30-years.
"I think it's partially maybe the sign of the times I know they've been little more criminal activity in small towns and small banks so it's a little bit of the sign of economic hardship."
Police say the man didn't just stop at Randall's. He came a couple blocks down south to Yoder's Antique Shop, broke through the door and glass window, then crawled through and stole jewelry and coins; leaving behind a mess and an unfamiliar picture of a crime scene.
"I feel real bad for the other owners because it very well could have been us."
Mike Kretsinger was also left with an unpleasant surprise at his door too.
"He realized he was at the wrong place."
Tips led police to 42-year old John Christerson. A witness saw his 2006 blue Chevy Malibu and found him on Route 36 near La Place.
"Small town law enforcement as you see is still pretty good. You still have good law enforcement in small communities."
"I'm just glad everything kind of fell into place for us take this person into custody."
The Macon County Sheriff's Office says it's interested in talking to Christerson to see if he's tied to crimes in Forsyth.
