DOUGLAS COUNTY -- A Coles County woman is changing her story. Now she says she was never attacked by a hitchhiker.

A 32-year old woman from Mattoon told police she was sexually assaulted after picking up a hitchhiker. The Douglas County Sheriff says the facts of the case did not match her statement.

The woman admitted making a false report to law enforcement. No word if charges will be filed.

DOUGLAS COUNTY -- A good Samaritan was attacked by the man she was trying to help. Now, investigators need your help to find him.

It started when the woman offered the man a ride. The victim told investigators she was trying to relax by driving around between Mattoon and Arcola Saturday afternoon. But, then she got lost and couldn't figure out where she was.

That's when she saw a man by the side of a county road, trying to hitchhike into town. He offered to help her get back if she gave him a ride, so she let him get in the backseat.

A short time later, the suspect put a rope around the woman's neck and started choking her. He told her to drive to a pair of grain bins and get out. That's where investigators say he sexually assaulted and attacked her.

A few cars happened to drive by, which officials say scared the suspect off. After he left, the woman found her way to a gas station where the clerk called police.

The suspect is described as a white man, 6'2", very skinny build, about 150 lbs., mid-40's or 50's, crooked front teeth, salt-and-pepper hair in a ponytail and mustache.

The man said his name was Charlie. He had a faded tattoo on his forearm and a mole between his eye and nose.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
