CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Supporters kicked off Autism Awareness Day with a message to state lawmakers. The number of children around the world being diagnosed is increasing. Early detection and diagnosis are key, but supporters say children will need resources from the state to meet their needs.

"We're really fighting to make sure that we have leveled funding for the networks. We have a network of 17 partners in 19 sites that really cover the entire state," Mary Miller of the Autism Program said.

The Autism Program provides families with educational materials and teaching aids free of charge.
