Bank robber faces 8 years in prison

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A St. Joseph man will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to bank robbery.
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A St. Joseph man will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to bank robbery. 27-year old Kaleb Shields, admitted robbing the Central Illinois Bank, in the 300-block of West Springfield, Champaign, before noon on July 31, 2013.

Authorities say Shields wore a fake beard taped to his face when he handed the teller a note demanding money. They say he acted as though he had a gun, but none was ever seen by anyone at the bank.

He reportedly drove off in a car, which police found within minutes in a driveway in the 200-block of East Hill Street. Police then found Shields in the backyard and arrested him.

Officials say Shields admitted holding up the bank because he needed to pay his drug dealer. $446 which was taken was recovered.

He faces up to eight years in prison when he's sentenced. Shield's attorney plans to ask for a community-based sentence to include drug treatment.
