CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (UI Release) – University of Illinois head coach Matt Bollant announced the signing of senior guard Brittany Carter to the Fighting Illini roster on Thursday. Carter will be eligible for the 2014-15 season and will have one year of eligibility remaining after graduating from Ball State in three years.

“Brittany is a highly skilled two-guard with a great feel for the game and she understands how to play,” Bollant said. “She will give us some quality depth at guard and will be an impact player for us. We recruited her out of high school at Green Bay and we’re really excited to have the opportunity to coach her.”

Carter averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-best 1.8 steals per game for the Cardinals in 2013-14, ranking second on the squad in scoring and third in rebounding. She posted a career-high 23 points in BSU’s MAC tournament championship game loss then put in a game-high 17 points against Northwestern in the first round of the WNIT. Carter also opened the season with 19 points against Purdue while holding Boilermaker guard Courtney Moses scoreless on the other end of the floor.

She averaged 9.9 points per game in her Ball State career and led the Cardinals in scoring as a freshman. She also has 172 career three-pointers and 177 career steals. A native of St. Louis, Carter led Incarnate Word Academy to back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011, earning MVP honors on the Show-Me State Super Seven team.
