Busy with bee business

ILLINOIS -- State leaders are "buzzed" about an emerging business.
ILLINOIS -- State leaders are "buzzed" about an emerging business. The Department of Agriculture reports 700 more people have registered with the state as beekeepers this year. The surge brings the state's total number of beekeepers above 2,500 with more than 25,000 operating colonies.

Beekeepers say the attention on colony collapse, a development which has killed thousands of colonies around the country, has helped encourage more amateur beekeepers, including in downtown areas. This is National Pollinator Week. Special forums on how to build your own colony are being held at the Pollinatarium at the UI.
