Campus businesses preparing for construction

CHAMPAIGN -- Businesses on Green Street are learning to cope with construction. They know they'll be dealing with it for a while.

One company had to move because its building is being knocked down. Gameday Spirit is usually on the corner of Sixth and Green. But for the next year-and-a-half, it will be on the other side of the road.

It's a big change, inside and out. The location is lot smaller than they're used to. Sunday was the last day at the corner-side spot. It opens in its new space this weekend. The manager says the last few weeks of May are usually the slowest for business, so it made sense to move now.

Other nearby businesses and pedestrians are also having to make adjustments. Workers have some spots blocked off to start construction on a 14-story high-rise apartment complex.

Construction should be done by August 2014. As for the building where Gameday Spirit used to be, that will be demolished this weekend.
