Candidate Calls for Recount

MACON COUNTY -- A candidate who lost the Democratic primary for the 96th Illinois House District by 69 votes wants a recount.
MACON COUNTY -- A candidate who lost the Democratic primary for the 96th Illinois House District by 69 votes wants a recount. Winston Taylor submitted formal requests for discovery recounts in Macon and Christian counties.
Sue Scherer won those two of three counties in the district. Taylor won Sangamon County. State law allows a losing candidate who comes within 5% points of the winner to review ballots, applications and other documents for a 1/4 of the precincts in the jurisdiction.
Findings of a discovery recount won't change the results of the election, but they could be used if a candidate wants to take the case to court.
