CHAMPAIGN -- There's a new face representing education in Unit 4. John Bambenek is filling the empty board seat for the school district. He was picked unanimously.

Bambenek says there's a lot going on with Unit 4 right now and he's excited to get to work. The first thing he wants to tackle is overcrowding and construction on the new high school. He says, with talk of a bond referendum on the November ballot, the board will need to make a plan and he wants to help balance the needs of the community.

Bambenek is also excited to help build the district's international programs. It's something he's familiar with because of his work overseas and with a charity he runs in Africa.

Bambenek is filling the seat opened by Scott MacAdam. He resigned in January because of heart-related health issues.

Bambenek will serve until the next board election in 2015. He says he was honored to be picked.
