Champaign Student Reciting Poetry to the Top

CHAMPAIGN -- A high school student is the best in the state when it comes to poetry.
Carolyn Muller is a senior at Central high school.  For the past three years she's participated in Poetry Out Loud.  Students memorize poems and then recite them on stage.
This year Muller placed first in the state.  She heads to Washington DC for nationals in May.
"You know you do these things and you hope you're going to win and you're not sure and this year especially at the state level the competition was really really tough.  And I won so that's really exciting," said Muller.
Muller also says she loves poetry but she's not sure if she wants to make a career out of it. She plans to go to Augustana College next year and double major in creative writing and political science.
