Changes to sexual assault law proposed

SPRINGFIELD -- Prosecutors could get more time to press charges in sexual assault cases.
SPRINGFIELD -- Prosecutors could get more time to press charges in sexual assault cases. Currently, a sexual assault case has to be prosecuted within 10-years after being reported. This bill would lift that time frame.

The idea comes from the backlog of evidence kits which are in the state police data base. The bill's sponsor says victims should not be penalized because of that backlog. Those opposed say there should be legislation to put more pressure on police because of their backlogs.
