Cheese Fest takes over town

ARTHUR -- The big cheese was in Moultrie County Saturday otherwise known as the Arthur Amish Cheese Fest. One of the big events of the day was "Erste Kase Schnitzen.” It's the celebratory first cutting of the cheese wheel which weighs around 300 pounds.

Besides sampling dairy products, people enjoyed music and crafts. This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of the event.

"It's fun. It's just really fun to see the tourists and the look on the kids and everything," said Calene Dillon-Kohn of Arthur.

"I love it. The people down here are real friendly. I've been a friend of this town for a long time," said Gene Trimble of Newman.

The Cheese Fest runs through Labor Day. Sunday's activities include a cheese-carving contest, plus another 300 pound wheel will be sliced up and served.
