CHAMPAIGN -- Police are investigating an attempted abduction and suspicious activity involving grade school students. Both incidents happened Thursday.

The first was while a 5th grade girl waited for her school bus at 7:40 am. She was at the intersection of North 5th Street and East Columbia. She told police the suspect asked if she wanted a ride several times. After she said "no," he told her to get in the car. As she ran to a friend's home, she thought she heard him threaten that he would come after her.

He's described as a white man in his late-20's or early-30's. He has short brown hair, a light brown beard and mustache and was wearing a black t-shirt.

He was driving a small, silver four-door car with a white tiger sticker in the right windshield. She also saw a key-chain shaped like a finger or with the picture of a finger hanging from the trunk.

The second incident happened at 3:40 pm near Williamsburg and Thornton. A 7-year old boy was approached by two men in a black pick-up truck.

The men made comments to the boy, drove away and returned. He was not physically hurt and the comments were not clearly understood.

The suspects in this case are white men. One has short blond hair and was wearing glasses and a dark, green shirt. The second has blue eyes, short blond hair and was wearing a black t-shirt.

Police think the incidents may be related. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
