Concealed-carry already working?

ILLINOIS -- The state's new concealed-carry law could already be helping people defend themselves.
ILLINOIS -- The state's new concealed-carry law could already be helping people defend themselves. There are already cases where concealed-carry permit owners have used their firearms to protect themselves; most recently in Chicago.

A man in South Austin fired at two men who attacked him on his property. In this case, the intruders were armed and one of them pulled a gun on the homeowner. The victim, who was carrying his own weapon, pulled it out and fired back.

Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser says that's what the law is in place for. Both suspects got away. Police determined the victim had a valid concealed-carry permit, that he had completed the proper training and had acted in self-defense.

State police started issuing permits in January.
