Concealed-carry license could be in the mail

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- If you applied for a concealed-carry license, you might want to check your mailbox. They could be delivered in the next week.

So far, 5,000 applications of 50,000 have been approved. State police want to send out about 400 licenses daily. They say they're ahead of schedule, but more applications are expected to come.

Supports of the license are excited they're finally being distributed. Those with licenses are required to take classes to learn how to use the weapon properly.

ILLINOIS -- State police have issued the first round of concealed-carry licenses. More than 50,000 applications have been submitted. 5,000 of those were approved. Some could be delivered as early as Saturday.

More will go out at the beginning of next week. State police say they're ahead of schedule, but predict more applications will start rolling in. Of the 50,000 applications submitted, about 800 have been denied. State police expect to crank out 400 licenses per day.

ILLINOIS -- State police are almost ready to hand out Illinois' first concealed-carry permits. A spokesperson says the first batch should be ready next week.

More than 35,000 people have applied for permits so far. The state's expecting almost 500,000 applications the first year.
