Convicted felon on the loose

CHAMPAIGN -- A dangerous criminal is on the loose after a judge let him go.
CHAMPAIGN -- A dangerous criminal is on the loose after a judge let him go. 35-year old Edward Taylor was scheduled to go to trial in July for the January armed robbery of a Meijer gas station.

A witness was missing, so Judge Tom Difanis rescheduled his trial to this week. Taylor had a bond of $200,000, which he couldn't afford, so Judge Difanis reduced it to zero, and released Taylor on his own recognizance.

Taylor was a no-show Monday, and was convicted of the crime Tuesday. The witness missing in Taylor's trial was a police officer who was on vacation. Judge Difanis didn't return calls to WCIA-3 News. Taylor's sentencing hearing is scheduled for September. He faces up to 75-years in prison.
