County jail fails inspection, now what?

EDGAR COUNTY -- An area jail could be forced to close its doors.
EDGAR COUNTY -- A county jail could be forced to close its doors after failing inspection. The Department of Corrections referred the problem to the State Attorney General.

The sheriff says the building hasn't been in compliance with county jail standards for several years, but the county doesn't have the money to pay for repairs. The department is looking at ways to get the money like raising the public safety tax.

If the jail closes, the sheriff's department will have to pay to transport and house inmates in nearby counties, costing the county even more money.
