DANVILLE, Ill. – Ronnie Jebavy hit the second pitch of the game over the left field fence, and Mark Hendrick threw a pitching gem as the Danville Dans beat the Quincy Gems 2-0 in the first game of the Prospect League’s West Division playoff series Wednesday night.
Hendrick threw seven innings, giving up just two hits, along with three strike outs and three walks. On the season, the Austin Peay State University senior-to-be went 5-2 in 12 games, including seven starts. On the year, he stuck out 36 and walked 14 with a 2.41 ERA.
In addition to Jebavy (Middle Tennessee State junior-to-be), Matt Henderson (Santa Barbara City College freshman) led the Dans offensively, going 3-3 with a sac bunt. His double in the 6th put Gabe Acevedo (Oakton Community College sophomore) on third base, where he scored on a Brandon Shirley (UC San Diego freshman) sacrifice fly to give the Dans their second run of the game.
Kyle Royalty (Birmingham Southern junior-to-be) got the top of Quincy’s order out 1-2-3 in the eighth inning. And Cam Wysocki (Michigan freshman) came in to pitch the ninth and record his sixth save of the season.
The Dans will host Game 2 of the West Division Series on Thursday, August 7. Game time is 6:30 pm at Danville Stadium. If necessary, Game 3 will also be played in Danville on Friday, August 8.
In the East Division, Chillicothe Paints travelled to Butler and beat the Blue Sox 5-0.
The winner of the West Division will host Game 1 of the Prospect League Championship Series on Sunday, August 10.
