Danville using youth as a positive

DANVILLE, Ill. - Danville will have a new look this season. The Vikings plan to start nine sophomores. Tavion Boyd will replace Trent Sherfield at quarterback, and junior running back Kaleb McLain will be the go-to guy offensively. Even though they're one of the youngest teams in the Big 12, Danville head coach B.J. Luke says youth isn't always a bad thing.

Luke says youth isn't always a bad thing.

"What's exciting about it is they're very talented kids and they're willing to learn and to grab on," he said.  "The seniors have done a nice job of leadership for them and you know you have a future where you're going to be pretty good again."

"The seniors got a big challenge to step up and set a good example on and off the field for the younger guys," said linebacker Deanta Crenshaw.

The Vikings open the season Friday at home against Kankakee.
