ILLINOIS -- The wait for Medicaid benefits is taking longer than usual. The state has received more than 280,000 Medicaid applications since the fall when people started signing up under the Affordable Care Act. The Department of Public Health says it's processing applications as fast as it can, having to verify income and residence. So far, it's processed more than 200,000 applications.
