Drug court grads proud of achievements

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A group of people is turning their lives around.
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A group of people is turning their lives around. Five of them graduated from drug court Monday. They've been changing their lifestyles to build better futures. They have stayed sober for at least a year.

They were recognized in front of their family members, friends and others who are going through the same process. Judge Jeffrey Ford is in charge of Drug Court in Champaign County. He told everyone there, we have to help each other.

The county usually has the graduation ceremony twice a year. One of this session's graduates, Francis Lefever, says this is a major accomplishment. He says he battled addiction, but now is working toward recovery.

The Salvation Army was also honored for its partnership in helping people in the community. Some of the other graduates said they felt blessed to get this second chance. Even though this was another big step, there's still work to do.

A good sign is, three of four drug court grads don't commit a new crime within four years of graduating.
