MILFORD -- An every day chore put two men in a scary situation. They were both at Casey's Gas Station when one of them had a massive heart attack. It happened in the 100-block of West Jones Street. As WCIA-3's Megan Brilley reports, employees were frantically dialing 911 when they say they witnessed a miracle

"Thank you so much. You saved my husband's life."

For Roberta Hollister, 1,000 thank you's will never be enough. Just days ago, her husband, Ron, walked into Casey's Gas Station. As part of his daily routine, Ron was buying a lottery ticket when suddenly everything went black. Police officer Joe Garrett was outside talking to a friend.

"That's when we heard a thump. I noticed that the cashier was kind of frantic."

Garrett went in to make sure Ron was breathing.

"I found he was pulse-less," Garrett said. "I immediately called radio and had them dispatch an ambulance."

Meanwhile, Ron's wife, Roberta, was at home listening to a scanner.

"I heard PD on scene," Roberta Hollister said.

She thought about calling her husband.

"I assumed that it was just a fight. I didn't think anything of it. My training kicked in. It was time to start doing what needed to be done."

On the gas station's floor, Garrett started CPR. He kept the blood flowing through Ron's brain until EMTs got on scene.

"I just was excited that I could actually be at the right place at the right time," Garrett said.

"If he had not been here and things didn't go the way they did, my husband would not be with us today," Hollister said.

Garrett told us he was just doing his job whether it was fate or coincidence. Roberta is forever thankful he decided to go to Casey's that day.

"I'll never forget that Joe saved my husband's life."

Ron isn't talking yet, but he is conscious. Doctors believe he'll be okay.
