Family business is Our Town success

PAWNEE -- An area store is giving new meaning to "shop local." It also brings new meaning to "one-stop shop."
PAWNEE -- An area store is giving new meaning to "shop local." It also brings new meaning to "one-stop shop." WCIA-3's Alex Davis visits a store which is all in the family in Our Town.

Just passing by, it might look like your average bait and gun shop. But, if you stop off 104 and you take the time to go inside, you'll find that they truly have so much more going on than that.

The Catteau's are all about family. That's the whole basis of how they got started.

"My son was, went to school to become a taxidermist and, so the wife and I purchased this building with the intent of dual purpose, him having a taxidermist shop and our daughter, who owns a trucking company, her and her husband would share the facility and they could do trucking out of here and they could do taxidermy out of here."

Later on, they added bait and tackle and firearms, giving everyone a stake in the family business, including Bobo, who fills the role of shop dog.

"It's a nice family business."

But, a few years later, they stumbled into another business. When their son, Michael, died, the Catteau's added a monument shop to fill a need.

"There's no other bait shop or gun shop in town and we're the only monument business."

As sister, Blanch, explains, it was an easy transition.

"Moved stuff from here over to there and painted here and got everything set up so that we could have monuments brought in."

Making it a truly one-stop shop for the folks in Our Town.

"Pawnee people support us. We have a lot of support from Pawnee and we like to support these other businesses in town here also."
