NATIONAL -- Friday, President Obama signed a sweeping $956 billion federal farm bill into law. It cuts $800 million a year from the food stamp program and replaces billions in direct payments to farmers with expanded access to crop insurance.

President Obama says the legislation will not only help farmers but the economy as well. 47-million people are on the food assistance program known as SNAP. Some critics say taking $8 billion out of it the next ten years is too much.
