Federal judge throws out lawsuit

SPRINGFIELD -- A federal judge tossed out a lawsuit aimed at allowing Illinois gun owners to carry concealed weapons immediately.
SPRINGFIELD -- A federal judge tossed out a lawsuit aimed at allowing Illinois gun owners to carry concealed weapons immediately. Now, the State Rifle Association is appealing his decision.

The new concealed-carry law gives state police 180 days to come up with a program, plus 90 days to process applications. The lawsuit calls the delay "unreasonable."

But Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office says to challenge the ruling, gun owners would have to explain why the wait is illegal. Currently, the appeal has no court date.
