FEMA Denies Appeal For Relief

SPRINGFIELD-- Governor Quinn responded to FEMA's denial of the state's appeal for federal assistance to help people affected by the February 29 tornado.
SPRINGFIELD-- Governor Pat Quinn responded to FEMA's denial of the state's appeal for federal assistance to help people affected by the February 29 tornado.
"I am very disappointed with this decision and do not believe it reflects the reality and devastation on the ground. I remain committed to obtaining any and all assistance available to help our Southern Illinois communities recover," he said.
The governor plans to submit a request to the U.S. Small Business Administration seeking low-interest loans to help people rebuild their homes and replaces their personal items lost in the storms.
Staff from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency plan to meet with a FEMA recovery specialist to pursue other options to provide assistance to people in need.
Quinn said his administration will continue to deploy all state agencies and maximize all available options to lessen the burden for storm victims.
