Former Parkland professor acts in Super Bowl finalist ad

NATIONAL -- Super Bowl XLVIII is in the history books. One of the most popular commercials featured a former Parkland professor. Jim Coates used to teach theater, but now lives in Arizona.

This ad won Doritos $1 million Commercial Competition. The director, Ryan Anderson, says he has his son to thank for the idea. Anderson says it only cost him $300 to make the ad.

NATIONAL -- A former Parkland College professor might make his TV debut on Super Bowl Sunday. Jim Coates is one of five finalists who submitted a commercial to the "Doritos Crash the Super Bowl" competition.

He's the man in the blue shirt in the video. The winner will see his or her commercial air on Super Bowl Sunday, along with a $1 million prize. Coates is also a UI grad. His commercial is called "Time Machine."
