The Academy also gave Gravity ten nominations, including best picture, actress, director and cinematography. In all, nine movies got best picture nods, including Her, Nebraska, Philomena, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street.

12 Years a Slave was also among the best picture nominees. Its nine nominations include best actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor. Among the other best actor nominees, Bruce Dern for Nebraska and Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street.

In the best actress category, Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep all got nods from the Academy.

All of the best director nominees had movies nominated for best picture: David O'Russel for American Hustle; Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity; Alexander Payne for Nebraska; Steve McQueen for 12-Years a Slave; and Martin Scorsese for The Wolf of Wall Street.

Among those who were snubbed: The Butler was not nominated and Saving Mr. Banks' only nod was for its score. The Academy Awards will be handed out March 2, with Ellen DeGeneres hosting the ceremony for the second time.
