URBANA --  People got an up-close look at some soon-to-be improved streets. The city took them on a bus tour to showcase where road projects will happen over the next year and a half.

The money to pay for them will come from the city's gas tax. It was increased to $.04 in May. Passengers saw 15 project sites around town. Together, it will cost more than $1,000,000.

"This is a great way to just know the condition of the roads and the locations of the roads. It's a lot easier than just looking at a website," said Public Works Director William Gray.

"It's important to let the citizens know and see what you say you are doing with the money, you actually do with it," said Carletta Donaldson.

Most of the projects will focus on re-surfacing roads. The gas tax has been in effect since the summer of 2010.
