CHAMPAIGN -- An area agency wants to help families deal with a recent murder. People had the change to get professional help Monday.

Access Initiative held meetings at two churches in the area to provide that help, giving families the opportunity to deal with trauma stemming from the murder of Allen Redding.

Organizers say families are struggling with violence in the area and say they needed to act quickly. They say, the earlier you identify signs of trauma, the better it is to deal with, especially when it comes to children. If it isn't talked about, kids tend to lash out. What looks like a behavioral issue is actually a trauma issue.

Leaders say the community must reinvest in youth, neighbors need to look out for each other and more adults need to step up and be positive role models.

The group is holding another session Monday, from 4:30 - 7:30 pm, at the Jericho Baptist Church and the New Free Will Baptist Church. If you can't make the meeting, they will come to you.
