Here's the Dirt: Becoming a Master Naturalist

Champaign - This time of year is perfect for exploring the outdoors.
Champaign - Wouldn't it be fun to identify everything nature offers when exploring?  Now you can through the East Central Illinois Master Naturalist Program.  Diane Whilhite, program coordinator explains how you can become a master naturalist.  

Complete 70 hours of classroom/field training and the prerequisite volunteer hours.

Deadline to apply is July 21st.  Call the U of I Extension office at 217-333-7672 and they will help you with the application.  You may also apply online here

No degree, experience needed just a desire to learn about nature and time/willingness to devote time to volunteering and continuing education.  Master Naturalist Program sponsors include Champaign County Forest Preserve and Urbana Park District.

Training starts August 26th, runs for ten weeks.  Every Tuesday, 9am to 4pm plus two Saturday field trips.  Experts in the field instruct.  Hands on experience.
