NATIONAL -- Home Depot is telling customers they're off the hook, if their credit card data was stolen. The retailer hasn't confirmed any problems yet, but is checking into possible hacking. It's telling customers they won't be responsible for any possible fraud.

Home Depot learned about the potential problem earlier this week and hired a security company to investigate. Customers should monitor their bank statements. The company is also offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection.

NATIONAL -- Home Depot is investigating whether hackers stole customers' credit and debit card information. The home improvement store confirms it's working with banks and law enforcement to investigate "unusual activity." The website, Krebs on Security reports hackers may have targeted Home Depot stores beginning in May. Experts say, if that's true, it could be an even bigger breach than the one which compromised 40 million cards at Target over the holidays.
