Hometown Hero proudest serving others

CHAMPAIGN -- After challenging himself to become a better person, one veteran is now leading the way for others to do the same. And, he's doing it all through fitness. WCIA-3's Amanda Porterfield introduces us to this week's Hometown Hero.

He'd been out of shape for four or five years.

"I was going through a divorce, borderline alcoholic. I was depressed out of my mind."

Ultimately, that was what inspired Keybeck Song to get his mind and body back in tune with one another.

"A couple of my friends put together a challenge; a fitness challenge. It was me and three other guys. I picked P90X, another guy picked Insanity, another was going to do Crossfit. At the end of the twelve weeks, we were going to have an amazing physical strength. I think the Insanity guy lasted a couple of weeks. The Crossfit guy lasted a month. I was the only one who went the twelve weeks."

And Song didn't stop. He started Infinite C-U. It's a place where people can take fitness classes and change their lives when they feel like they've hit a wall.

"If you do something good where you've changed your life around, the next thing you need to do is channel that into helping other people."

But, Song's service started in the military. In fact, his first day of boot camp was September 11, 2001.

"We had a week to think about what we just signed up for. Then, the next week, it was real. I knew I was going to go to war."

Song says that, and everything he's been through, has taught him how to live.

"If you are in the military and you are a service to our country, service man or woman, then, that's the way you should live your life is to serve others. I feel most alive when I am out here in front of my class; my boot-campers, my warriors. That's when I feel most alive."

Song teaches several classes a week.
