ILLINOIS -- It could soon be tougher to get a deer hunting permit. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) says it's considering limiting the number of tags it gives out each season.

That's because there are currently fewer deer than normal. Experts say diseases like blue tongue are killing them off. If approved, the changes could take affect this year's season.

ILLINOIS -- Deer hunting may be a little slower this season. Illinois' officials want to increase the deer population. The past two years, they've been dying from epizootic hemorrhagic disease, so now the state wants to help manage herds.

An owner of an outdoors store says he's glad the state is doing something about the population. State officials manage the state's deer population by county. They also want to reduce conflict between deer and people. This includes car accidents and crop damage.
