In Perspective: Health insurance changes

Changes to healthcare laws mean you and your family need to start thinking about your insurance plan now.
ILLINOIS- Changes to healthcare laws mean you and your family need to start thinking about your insurance plan now.

Sinead Madigan is the director of government relations for Health Alliance Medical Plans.
She says the penalties for most people who don't have insurance by the deadline start around $100 the first year, then triple the next.
Up until 2017, each year you don't have insurance you'll pay more.
Then, the fine becomes an annual tax penalty hike that increases with the cost of living.

The open enrollment period begins October 1, 2013.

Health Alliance will host informational meetings in Danville and Urbana at the following times:
-Danville: September 17 from 4-5 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.
-Urbana: September 18 from 4-5 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.
-Urbana: September 21 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. or 1-2 p.m.
