UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- UI Police lost one of their own Tuesday. Nala, a 13-year old Belgian Malinois was put down. She was the department's former K-9 officer. She had just recently retired after ten years of service. Nala rode along with Officer Troy Chew who brought her home to stay with him after her retirement. Nala had been having problems with her hind legs. UI's new K-9 and explosives officer is Zuri.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- An area K-9 officer retires after ten years on the force. Nala, is a 13-year old Belgian Malinois. She had her last day Friday. She was the first bomb-sniffing dog for the University of Illinois Police. Now, she has a chance to go home with her owner, Officer Troy Chew. He says he'll be sad to not have her in the car with him. The department will get a new dog which begins training next week. She'll also be part of the explosive division.
