Kids to Know undertaking safety education

DANVILLE -- A group of Kids to Know want to get across a serious message: water can be dangerous.
DANVILLE -- A group of Kids to Know want to get across a serious message: water can be dangerous. Two children drown in swimming pools in the same week last year.

It hit this group at North Ridge Middle School hard. The Future Problem Solvers Team decided to figure out why it was happening. Their research is changing the face of the city.

The students helped coordinate swim lessons and arranged free CPR classes. The Liquid Lifesavers, as they call themselves, are cleaning up waterways and getting people to repair a bridge they discovered was broken.

One of the group's biggest accomplishments was speaking at a city council meeting where a debate over keeping the dam was taking place. The students spoke out against it and there was a landslide vote.

Their work is also being noticed outside Danville. The students and their research are headed to an international competition, in June.
