Madigan promotes plan for teacher pensions

SPRINGFIELD -- Pension talks are once again the focus at the Capitol.
SPRINGFIELD -- Pension talks are once again the focus at the Capitol. Thursday's big question was what to do with teacher pensions.

Under the House Speaker's proposal, school districts would have to start covering the costs for teacher pensions. Currently, the state picks up the tab.

Members from the education community got a chance to weigh in during a hearing at the Capitol. They say the changes could be tough for some districts to handle because they're already dealing with major budget cuts.

Madigan's bill passed out of both the House and Senate, but since then, changes were made to it in the House. That means it now has to go back to the Senate for another vote.
