Man acquitted for insanity still in custody

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A Champaign man who stabbed his mother to death is still in the county jail. Terry Brownlee was found not guilty by reason of insanity in January.

Tuesday, he was supposed to leave jail and receive a mental health evaluation. But, the Champaign County State's Attorney says he's still in custody.

She says it's another example why the state should have mental health needs dealt with at the city our county level. Brownlee has another hearing set for next month.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A 32-year old man who fatally stabbed his mother, then set fire to hide the death remains in jail. Terry Brownlee was found not guilty by reason of insanity and acquitted in January. But, he has remained in custody in Champaign County because of case backlog. The Champaign County State's Attorney's Office says Brownlee should be moved Tuesday with a new hearing set for next month.
