CHAMPAIGN -- A man has been arrested in connection with an officer-involved shooting which happened last month. Both the officer and the suspect were injured during a struggle on the corner of 6th and Bradley on August 14, 2013.

Russell Primmer, 20, was arrested Tuesday for unlawful use of a firearm by a felon. He was also arrested for armed robbery in 2011 and sentenced to 5-years but only served about 100 days.

On August 14, police say an officer pulled Primmer over in his car for rolling through a stop sign. The officer saw open alcohol in his car and asked the driver to get out.

Police say Primmer got out of the car and pulled a gun from his pants then held it to his own head. When the officer tried to get the gun, it went off. Primmer was shot in the head.

Police say the officer did not fire the gun. Both men were treated and released from the hospital. Primmer is being held on $500,000 dollars bond.
